Real Estate Investor Weekly #40 - December 12, 2022
The best content this week for real estate investors from around the web.
Newest Black Knight Mortgage Report
Some really interesting data in the latest Black Knight report including this chart showing how much negative and limited equity folks have.
Also check out Bill McBride’s commentary about the report.
Mortgage Debt
A good article about mortgage equity withdrawals in Q3 including this chart. Lots of real estate value and relatively low mortgage debt compared to 2008 peak.
Assorted Charts
Some assorted charts shared by Lon Welsh. Thanks!
Housing Forecast
Another good article from Bill McBride about predicting what housing will do in 2023 including this chart.
Also check out the 2023 Housing Forecast from Realtor.com for an alternative perspective.
Home Ownership Rate
A pet peeve of mine is when people zoom in a chart to make something seem much more extreme than it is. Here’s an example with homeownership rate going back to 1965.
It is true that the percentage of people that owned a home has varied a bit in the last 50+ years, but we’re talking about varying from 63% to 69% and we’re sort of in the middle of that range right now in 2022.
The way this chart is zoomed in and only showing between 61% and 70% it looks much more extreme than it really is IMO.
Other good homeowner versus renter stats.
Politics and Inflation
It can feel easy to blame a particular politician or political party for inflation, but it’s probably a little more complicated/nuanced than that. Inflation is not an issue unique to the United States. See this infographic of inflation around the world.
AirBNBs in 3 Metros
Another infographic showing all the AirBNBs in 3 major metros.
Enjoy!
